IF YOU SUSPECT ABUSE? Think clearly. Thinks through your responses before you suspect abuse. Don't panic and assume abuse straight away. Think clearly and you will be able to respond in a more supportive manner to your childs needs. Encourage your child to talk but DO NOT ask leading questions about any details. LEAVE THAT TO THE PROFESSIONALS asking about details can also alter your childs memory of the events. If you must ask questions as any parent would and probably can't stop themselves as open ended ones like "What happened Next"? If you think your suspicions are true seek help of a professional immediately. They are trained to interview children about sexual abuse. This could be criticalto the childs healing process and if it is to lead to a criminal investigation and prosecution. REPORT OR TAKE ACTION in ALL cases of suspected abuse both inside or outside the family. DON'T PANIC Child sexual Abuse is a crime! Contact the Police ask for Child Protection Services. Contact your local Social Services Department. C |

Support organisations like CEOP Use your voice and vote to make your community a safer place for our children. Ask your child's School what child sexual abuse policies they have in place and what if any educational services they provide in the classroom to teach children about Grooming or Sexual Abuse. If they don't join the PTA and try and encourage them to help with their creation. Write to your local MP and demand that the Government put more resources in to protection of children in the UK and demand that they respond to reports and statistics on reports of child sexual abuse. |
